COLUMBIA, S.C. — Three Prosperity railroad crossings that were blocked Sunday after a CSX train derailed have been reopened to motorists, Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said this morning.

Meanwhile, CSX spokeswoman Meg Scheu said this morning the railroad is still trying to determine the cause of crash and a series of grass small fires apparently started by the train before it derailed.

Scheu said CSX is examining the train, tracks and operating procedures. The track route is expected to be reopened tonight for other trains, she said.

No injuries or serious damage was reported in the derailment, which happened at 2:23 Sunday. Twenty of the 99 cars on the train, which was hauling coal from Tennessee to Cayce, derailed, CSX officials said.

The derailment closed crossings in Prosperity on Main and Pine streets, and on S.C. 391, Foster said.
