ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — A BNSF Railway employee was hospitalized after being struck by the handrail of a moving train earlier in the week.

Steve Forsberg, general director of public affairs for BNSF, said the man was a signal employee working in Sadler, Mo., in Platte County. Mr. Forsberg said the employee didn’t hear the approaching train blowing its whistle.

“He attempted to move out of the way of the train but was hit by the handrailing,” Mr. Forsberg said.

The employee, whose name was not released, was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center and was in serious condition.
