TULLAHOMA, Tenn. — A CSX railroad machine operator from Cowan was dead on arrival at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma Friday morning after he collapsed while working at the tracks on South Atlantic Street across from Builder’s Supply Co., according to police.

Co-workers said William Dale Spencer, 51, of Cowan, had complained of chest pains just before he fell to the ground at about 6:30 a.m., and Coffee County Ambulance Service paramedics were performing CPR when Tullahoma Police Officer Bob Looney arrived at the scene about five minutes later, his report states.

Unofficial reports indicated Spencer died of a heart attack, police said.

Services were held Sunday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester with burial in Cowan Montgomery Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Chris Spencer; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Clay Sherrill; two daughters Ann Spencer and Delanie Spencer; father, Albert Spencer, sister, Bedelia Rowell, and grand-daughter Aleigh Sherrill, all of Cowan, and brother, Jerry Spencer, Winchester.
