SWEETWATER, Texas — Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad spent a day to inform Sweetwater elementary students how to be safe around railroads.
Jerry Rector, coordinator of field safety support for BNSF, made stops at J.P. Cowen, East Ridge and Southeast elementary schools to present Operation Lifesavers to the students.
Rector, a locomotive engineer and conductor for BNSF plans to visit the intermediate, middle, high school and driver’s education classes during the next school term.
“I have seen all kinds of terrible accidents on the railroads, and I want to make sure these kids know how to prevent any more from occurring,” Rector said.
