LAWRENCE, Kan. — Burlington Northern Santa Fe is asking the public for help finding the person who climbed into an unlocked and idling engine over the weekend and managed to maneuver the machine 200 yards before it derailed.

The railroad has offered $5,000 for information that leads to the person who started the engine moving Saturday night near downtown Lawrence. The train reached 14 miles per hour before it hit a derailing lock.

Railroad spokesman Steve Forsberg said the derailment caused about $1,000 in damage to the engine.
