NEW DEHLI, India — A serious threat looms over the tracks of the local railway station as a species of mole rat have hollowed the land beneath them, OutlookIndia.com has reported.

“If the rats are not wiped out there could be a serious danger to the railway tracks as it may collapse under the weight of the trains,” scientists of the Central Aridzone Research Institute said here yesterday.

There was no trace of the rats in and around the station a few years back and it was likely that they had reached here in luggage vans of trains coming from Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi, they said.
