HARTFORD, Conn. — U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood is scheduled to visit Connecticut to discuss plans to boost rail service between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield.

LaHood and state and federal officials from Connecticut and Massachusetts are expected to ride the Amtrak shuttle on Monday morning from New Haven to Hartford.

Sen. Chris Dodd’s office says they’ll discuss plans for the corridor, including faster and more frequent commuter service between the three cities. Supporters say it would give the region’s rail passengers better connections to New York City, Vermont and eventually Boston.

A closed-door meeting among the officials to discuss high-speed rail is also planned at the Connecticut state Capitol.
