SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Union Pacific is investigating an accident today in one its Salt Lake City Rail yards.

Officials say at 1:30 this afternoon one switch engine went into an area it wasn’t supposed to go and side swiped a second engine.

That second engine derailed and the fuel tank, which is located between the wheels beneath the frame, ruptured, spilling 1500 gallons of fuel.

Two flat cars also derailed.

Union Pacific says the cause appears to be human error.

The engine operators are on the ground and make the trains move with a remote control device.

Nobody was injured in the accident.
