WATERLOO, Iowa — A train derailment in Black Hawk County between Raymond and Jesup Wednesday caused authorities to evacuate nearby residents.
Several cars of a two-mile long Illinois Central train jumped the tracks about five miles east of Waterloo. Authorities said one of the cars was a tanker hauling sulfuric acid.
The tanker began to leak and authorities evacuated two nearby farmhouses as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
Hazardous materials teams were cleaning up the spill. Officials with the Canadian National Railroad, which owns Illinois Central, are investigating the derailment.
