SAINT-ANDRE, N.B. (CP) – Residents have begun returning to their homes following a train derailment in northwestern New Brunswick.
Fifty-four CN Rail freight cars jumped the tracks near Saint-Andre Thursday afternoon and some were carrying propane and sulphuric acid.
But RCMP Sgt. Derek Strong says none of the hazardous materials has leaked and people in about two dozen evacuated homes have been given the OK to return.
Strong says there were 137 cars in total in the train and those that didn’t derail have been moved.
He says work will begin in the morning to remove the rest.
