LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There is still no timetable for evacuees to return home following last week’s fiery train derailment in Bullitt County.

Residents of about 15 households are still being advised to take advantage of accommodations provided by CSX, or find other shelter, as agencies clean up the aftermath from the 25-car train wreck.

Workers excavated 2,800 tons of soil from around the crash site overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. The soil was removed to a staging area and will go to an approved landfill this week for proper disposal, after soil samples are taken.

While trains had already begun traveling over the newly repaired track, service was discontinued Saturday until 10:30 a.m. Sunday while the excavation took place, CSX spokesman Gary Sease said.
