RICHMOND, Va. — A boy tripped and fell in front of an Amtrak train, then lay between the railroad tracks while the train’s two engines and 31 cars passed over him, reports the Virginian Pilot.
The boy, 12 years old, was not hurt but was taken to a hospital for observation, Richmond police Capt. Walter Howard said Monday night. The boy’s name was not released.
Howard said the boy, who lives near the tracks, was playing with two or three friends on the tracks when they saw the southbound train coming and began to run. The boy told police he fell in front of the train.
The Amtrak Autotrain had left Lorton about 4 p.m. heading to Sanford, Fla., with 306 passengers, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said. She said the train was delayed an hour and 40 minutes while police and railroad officials investigated the incident.
