ATLANTA — Union Pacific Railroad has entered into an agreement with RMI of Atlanta to provide car hire settlement and reporting services for approximately connecting 50 short line railroads.
Under the new agreement, the UP short lines will become full participants in the railroad industry’s car hire settlement process using RMI’s RailConnect EMS services and the assistance of RMI’s expert support staff. In addition to car hire settlement processing, the short lines will be able to utilize tools in the RMI car hire system that will enable them to proactively manage and reduce their car hire costs while improving equipment utilization.
“We are very excited that UP recognized RMI’s ability to provide car hire processing for their dependent short lines, and had the confidence that the transition would be a smooth one with RMI,” says Stan Broome, RMI’s VP of Equipment Management Services. “We expect all the roads to be converted to our service by October 1, 2004,” added Broome. These new clients will increase RMI’s car hire payable customer base to 385 railroads.
