BOSTON BAR, B.C. — A rockslide blocked the CN Rail mainline through the Fraser Canyon yesterday.
Railway spokesman Jim Feeny said the slide occurred at 3:45 a.m., about eight kilometres west of Boston Bar. It covered about 30 metres of track. An automatic detector system alerted the railway to the slide and stopped trains using the line.
“The detection systems that are in place functioned perfectly and alerted us in time to stop the trains, just as they’re designed to do,” he said.
Feeny said CN trains will be diverted over to a CP Rail line until Christmas Day, when it’s expected the slide will be cleared.
