CLEVELAND, March 8 — As BLET National President Dennis Pierce wrote yesterday, the time to get involved is now.

In a message to all BLET members yesterday, he encouraged all union members to take an active role in fighting for the rights of union workers by getting involved in their union, attending a rally or march, or getting involved in the local politics of your city, county or state government.

Attached is a tool for BLET members who want to make a difference in state or local politics. It is a sample resolution supporting America’s labor movement as well as the right to collectively bargain.

The sample resolution comes from the office of Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa, who said: “All across the country, Teamster leaders have found elected officials who are willing to put their name on the record in support of our cause.”

BLET members who want to help can lobby their city council or other local government entity to adopt the attached resolution.

The attacks against working families in Ohio, Wisconsin and Indiana are expected to soon spread to other states, such as Missouri, Maine, Iowa, Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.

BLET members are strongly encouraged to stand up for what is right and to help protect America’s middle class.

“It is becoming abundantly clear that the politicians who are pushing this war on workers have a much grander motive than just balancing a budget,” President Pierce said. “Their real agenda is to once and for all break the back of the labor movement in this country, and that is not an agenda that will benefit any working class American.”

A copy of the sample resolution is available from the BLET website.
