SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The hundreds of San Bernardino residents who evacuated following a train derailment have been allowed back home.

A Union Pacific Railroad spokesman says the evacuation order was lifted at 3:00 this morning.

About 365 residents who live near the crash site were forced to leave early Tuesday after 13 train cars derailed and one of them leaked 200 gallons of flammable liquid.

Crews worked around the clock to transfer potentially hazardous chemicals and remove the derailed cars. They have also completed rebuilding 240 feet of damaged track.

Still no word on what caused the derailment, which was the fourth in Southern California in the past month. Three other trains derailed in Industry, Mira Loma and Santa Fe Springs.
