SCRANTON, Pa. — Lackawanna County residents in communities from Carbondale to Scranton will gather at train stations, parks and railroad crossings Dec. 7 to welcome Santa’s seventh annual whistle-stop tour of the Lackawanna Valley, the Scranton Times reported.
Chugging along the historic Delaware and Hudson Mainline, the Jolly Old Elf, accompanied by a few of his favorite helpers and some of the area’s finest entertainers and musicians, will join in festivities at each stop.
“I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the arrival of the Christmas season,” said Alan Sweeney, “Santa Train” Committee chairman. “This program fosters a wonderful opportunity for each of the participating communities to celebrate and share their own unique brand of holiday cheer.”
The schedule for the tour includes:
Carbondale, Pioneer City Station, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
Archbald, Pike Street, 11:50 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Jessup, Station Park, 12:55 to 1:40 p.m.
Olyphant, Queen City Station, 1:50 to 2:35 p.m.
Dickson City, Dickson City Volunteer Fire Station, 3 to 3:45 p.m.
Scranton, Steamtown National Historic Site, 4:15 p.m.
Mr. Sweeney said the program is not a rail excursion, but rather a community-based holiday kick-off, bringing seasonal entertainment to a broad audience.
The “Santa Train” is sponsored by the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority in partnership with the Lackawanna Historical Society, Steamtown, the Lackawanna County commissioners, the Lackawanna County Rail Authority, the Electric City Trolley Station and Museum, the Delaware Lackawanna Rail Co., the city of Carbondale, the boroughs of Archbald, Jessup, Olyphant and Dickson City, and the Jessup 21st Century Association.
