LA JUNTA, Colo. — “Save the Chief! is the motto,” said Mayor Joe Reorda of Trinidad. That is what Amtrak President and CEO Joseph Boardman made clear to a group of stockholders gathered aboard his special train while it was on a siding at the La Junta station on Saturday morning. “We need to save what we have first,” said Boardman. “Addition of a line through Pueblo will have to come as a second stage.” Being very frank and straightforward, Boardman also said, “What this nation needs is connectivity throughout the country.” The economic impact on small towns and cities throughout the country cannot be overestimated.
