WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Senate subcommittee on Tuesday took on the dispute of whether to increase railroad security spending after new threats of terrorist attacks or cut it back to reduce the nation’s deficit.
Warnings from railroad officials about ongoing security threats are running up against Republican proposals to cut federal spending on rail security by 65 percent in next year’s budget.
