BUFFALO, N.Y. — A western New York man faces sentencing today for lying to investigators after someone tried to derail a passenger train last summer. James Phillips admitted to lying about who’d been at a party on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation near where an Amtrak passenger train hit railroad ties placed across the tracks. So far, no one has been charged with the attempted derailment.
