SEPTA announced earlier this month its overall ridership has increased each of the last five months, and ridership is up about 2 percent this year. Last year’s average weekday regional rail ridership was 122,100.

The recent ridership increase comes on the heels of a ticket price increase in July, when SEPTA leaders expected a bit of a downturn in ridership. But when gas prices began to rise in August, riders began to return. The current average gas price in the Philadelphia area is $3.21, but could approach the 2008 high of $4.14 later this year.
