CAMPBELL HALL, N.Y. — Crews are clearing up the site of a freight train derailment in Orange County.
Officials say seven cars of a 55-car train derailed on the Norfolk Southern rail line east of Middletown around 4:3 this morning. The derailment caused traffic problems for morning commuters using Route 207 where it runs near the railroad tracks.
A railway spokesman says the cars that derailed were filled with grain. Authorities say the cars should be removed from the scene by tomorrow.
The train was backing out of the rail companys yards in Campbell Hall and headed to Suffern in neighboring Rockland County when the accident occurred.
No one was injured.
