GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A train derailed just before 1 a.m. Wednesday near the Riverbend Steam Plant. The plant is near Highway 273, between Lucia Riverbend Highway and Hartis Way in Gaston County.
The CSX train was hauling coal to that power plant.
Seven cars ran off the tracks and rolled over into the woods. Another 2 cars derailed, but stayed on the railroad bed. Bulldozers cleared trees to get to the derailed cars.
No one was hurt and no roads are blocked. Officials were not sure how long the cleanup will take.
