VANCOUVER — Canadian National Railway made a brief appearance in Prince George court Tuesday in relation to a fatal train crash.

CN faces three charges in the accident that killed two Prince George men in May of 2003.

Conductor Ken Lequesne and engineer Art McKay, both 51, died when the front of their eastbound freight plunged into a ravine after a wooden trestle collapsed near McBride.

Last month, Transport Canada laid one charge under the railway safety act, alleging CN failed to ensure the work done on the line followed sound engineering principles.

CN also faces two charges under the Canada Labour code, alleging the company didn’t ensure the health and safety of employees by making sure the wooden trestle was maintained.

The company will be back in court June 23.
