PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence and Worcester Railroad Co. and New England Central Railroad have agreed to form an alliance to try to increase business with several Canadian haulers who carry freight to New England. The two railroads have created an operating platform called the Great Eastern Route. It is designed to increase business with Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway for customers in southern New England, and to enhance access to port facilities owned by P&W and New England Central.
