WORCESTER, Mass. — The Providence and Worcester Railroad Company reaches an 8-year contract agreement with the union representing its maintenance workers.

The deal covers employees in the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen involved in the maintenance of equipment, communications and signals.

Company president Scott Conti calls the contract good for the company and good for the union.

Providence and Worcester reached similar 8-year deals with other unions representing clerical workers and train service workers over the past two years.

The rail line hauls products ranging from lumber, chemicals and steel products between Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York.
