MARSHALL, Mo. — Sheriff’s deputies were called to Nelson Thursday evening after an engineer for Union Pacific Railroad reported his train had been shot at.
Wally George, Saline County sheriff, said the call came in just after 5 p.m. and that the engineer had seen at least two juveniles hiding in grass near the railroad tracks.
When officers arrived, no one was in the area. However, an anonymous call to the sheriff’s department and interviews with Nelson residents gave officers several suspects.
Following up on these tips, officers made contact with two juveniles and learned that a total of four young people were involved, with one having shot at the train with a BB gun.
George said a copy of his officers’ report was forwarded to the Saline County Juvenile Officer’s office for review and disposition. The case is now considered closed by the sheriff’s department.
