NEWARK, N.J. — Thousands of NJ Transit passengers traveling in and out of New York Penn Station during the rush hour last night were delayed due to a track signal problem in the station, officials said.
The average delay was 30 minutes but some trains were delayed up to an hour, NJ Transit spokeswoman Penny Bassett Hackett said. Trains on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line and Midtown Direct lines were affected.
The signal problem occurred at 5:45 p.m., but on-time service for trains leaving New York Penn Station was restored by about 7 p.m. The tracks and signals are owned by Amtrak.
