MONTREAL — It was a somber scene inside the CNR’s Bonaventure Station that summer evening. Two weeks before, Sir Henry Thornton had submitted his resignation as president of Canadian National Railways and now, on Aug. 1, 1932, he was making his departure from Montreal. He would never see the city again.
