PANHANDLE, Texas — A memorial was unveiled in Panhandle on Tuesday, six years after a deadly train collision. Placed at the crash site, the new memorial honors Lara Taylor, Kenneth “KP” Smith and Cody Owens. On June 28, 2016, a BNSF train headed to Los Angeles collided with a train headed to Chicago, killing the three crew members. The memorial includes a cross made from railroad tracks and a block of granite engraved with the names of the victims. The memorial was dedicated thanks in part to the work of the victims’ families, BLET Division 299 and SMART-TD Local 1313.
