SEATTLE — A mudslide this morning blocked railroad tracks near Carkeek Park in north Seattle, suspending passenger service until Saturday, railroad officials said.
No injuries were reported. Though the mud slide was cleared and freight trains were allowed through, Amtrak passenger service and Sound Transit’s Sounder commuter train between Everett and Seattle would be suspended until Saturday as a precaution, said Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas. Passengers on those trains were being bused.
In addition, a heavy buildup of ice brought trees down across the track in southwestern Washington, between Longview and Vancouver, suspending service there.
Melonas said he expected maintenance crews using chain saws to have the line cleared by this afternoon.
