EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. — No injuries were reported after several small fires ignited below a row of tanker cars early this morning at the CSX yard in East Syracuse, firefighters reported.
The fires were reported at 3:54 a.m. and extinguished within a few seconds, said East Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Cramer.
The flames originated on oil absorbent pads underneath the cars, though there was no indication that any of the cars had leaks.
“It’s fairly unusual,” Cramer said.
The cause is labeled undetermined at this point, Cramer said.
Onondaga County fire officials are still investigating the incident.
