INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, December 1 — Members of the Transportation Division of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART TD), a partner union of the Coordinated Bargaining Group (CBG), announced on December 1 that its members have ratified the new national agreement by a nearly 4-to-1 margin. SMART TD is one of four CBG unions to ratify the pact.
Earlier this week, the membership of two other CBG unions voted in favor of the agreement: the American Train Dispatchers Association on November 27; and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen on November 28. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) also announced its successful ratification results on December 1.
The six unions comprising the CBG include: the American Train Dispatchers Association; the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (a Division of the Rail Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters); the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen; the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers, and Helpers; the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers / SEIU; and the Transportation Division of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers. Collectively, the CBG unions represent more than 85,000 railroad workers covered by the various organizations’ national agreements.
