(The U.S. Surface Transportation Board issued the following on December 22.)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Surface Transportation Board (Board) Chairman Roger Nober announced today the issuance of a report covering the Board’s activities during the fiscal years 2002-2004 (October 1, 2002-September 30, 2004). The report generally follows the format of the earlier reports issued since the Board was created on January 1, 1996.

The report issued today contains digests of: the Board’s history, functional responsibilities, performance and policy goals, and organizational structure; railroad restructuring proceedings; rail rate and service matters; rail oversight activity; rail labor proceedings; environmental review activities; rail financial conditions; National Rail Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) matters; issues relating to motor, water, and pipeline carriage; court actions; and various informational and statistical appendices.
