The U.S. Class I workforce grew a bit larger last month. As of mid-October, the large roads employed 160,251 people, up 0.1 percent from September’s level and 3.9 percent from October 2010’s count, according to Surface Transportation Board (STB) data. The only workforce segment that declined on a month-over-month basis was transportation (train and engine), which dipped 0.5 percent to 64,061.
