MARYSVILLE, Calif. — A Union Pacific Railroad freight train was forced to a stop Tuesday as police arranged to have a stolen pickup removed from tracks in north Marysville.

The truck’s driver, an Olivehurst resident, told Marysville police he was visiting a friend nearby in the 1700 block of Ellis Lake Drive when they saw the GMC Z71 truck being driven away and up a gravel road onto the tracks.

The thief abandoned the truck when it became stuck between the tracks and the river levee, the victim said. Clothing found in the riverbottoms below the levee matched a description provided by the victim, said police Sgt. John Osbourn.

Officers warned railroad officials of the obstruction and used all-terrain vehicles to search the area, without success.
