COLLINSVILLE, Ill. — Investigators believe they know how a bulldozer got onto railroad tracks last year before being rammed by a train.

Prosecutors in Madison County have charged 24-year-old Nathan Bailey of Collinsville with criminal damage to property over $100,000 in connection with the January 2008 case.

Investigators say the crash near the city’s Glidden Park didn’t cause a derailment or any injuries, although the wreck seriously damaged the CSX locomotive and the bulldozer.

Authorities say the bulldozer belonged to the city and was stolen from a construction site.

Bailey’s bail is set at $200,000. He wasn’t in custody of the county jail Tuesday morning.

A message left at Bailey’s home hasn’t been returned.
