CHICAGO — Switching, mechanical and weather-related problems have caused delays on both CTA and Metra trains Sunday morning.

On the CTA, switching problems at the Loop’s elevated junction at Van Buren Street and Wabash Avenue has caused delays on the Brown, Green, Orange and Pink lines, according to the CTA’s Web site.

Additionally, the CTA is warning all customers that all trains could experience minor delays because of extreme cold and other weather-related conditions.

Earlier, switching problems at the Howard station created significant delays on the Red, Purple and Yellow lines Sunday morning, the CTA said. On the Green Line, switching problems at the Harlem/Lake station created significant delays and minor delays were reported on the Blue Line, where switching problems at the Forest Park station are causing arrival and departure delays at the station.

On the Metra, Union Pacific Northwest Line train No. 714 was scheduled to depart Harvard at 10:35 a.m. and arrive in Chicago at 12:23 a.m., but is operating about 30 minutes late because of earlier mechanical problems in Harvard, according to Metra’s Web site.

Union Pacific West Line train No. 506 was scheduled to depart Elburn at 10:25 a.m. and arrive in Chicago at 11:46 a.m., but is operating about 40 minutes late because of delayed equipment arrival, the site said.

Union Pacific North Line train No. 334 was scheduled to depart Kenosha at 8:49 a.m. and arrive in Chicago at 10:30 a.m., but is running about 75 minutes late because of earlier mechanical problems, the site said. Despite the delay, the train will make all scheduled stops.

Metra also experienced switching problems near Brookfield on the Burlington Northern Line Sunday morning, the site said.
