COLUMBUS, Ohio — Teamster drivers who distribute food to Columbus-area Kroger stores will take their campaign to shoppers Friday, April 18 to prevent the giant food chain from eliminating more than 100 area jobs. The Teamsters will take off their usual work boots and caps and put on bunny suits and ears in the spirit of the holiday to distribute a specially designed grocery shopping list and free balloons.
“We want the community to be aware of Kroger’s scheme to steal jobs from this community,” said Gil Litton, President of Teamsters Local 413 in Columbus, which represents Kroger drivers. “This community helped to make Kroger a success. Now, they are rewarding us by taking away good, full-time jobs.”
The workers charge that Kroger, which rang up over $50 billion in sales last year, is turning its back on the Columbus community by eliminating the opportunity for future generations of workers to hold quality driving jobs.
