WASHINGTON — Today, General President Jim Hoffa issued the following statement.
As our members in Texas and Louisiana brace for Hurricane Rita, we ask our brothers and sisters to generously give to the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund. The fund has been providing emergency assistance to Teamster members in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
The costs for rebuilding communities and cities continue to escalate.
Never before have we had natural disasters impact our country on this large a scale. This is all the more reason to continue to build our Disaster Relief Fund.
The fund depends on donations from our local unions and other affiliates. Many of our brothers and sisters have already lost everything they own. Their homes and possessions are gone, their communities destroyed and their lives upended. We need to be prepared to stand with them in their hour of need as part of the Teamster family.
Please send your financial contributions to the Teamster Disaster Relief Fund today.
Donation checks are to be made payable to “Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund,” and mailed to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, 25 Louisiana Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20001.
