WILMINGTON, Ohio — The ABX Air, Inc. pilots, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, will conduct informational picketing at their Wilmington hub, at the Airborne Operations Center in Miami, and at the Airborne, Inc. (NYSE: ABF – News) headquarters in Seattle, Wednesday, July 31, to show their increasing frustration with the slow pace of contract negotiations. The picketing will coincide with the one- year anniversary of their contract’s expiration date.
“The informational picketing event is especially important because it provides the crewmembers an opportunity to tell the company and their customers that their patience is rapidly dwindling,” Capt. Rob Boyd, Local 1224 President, said. “In more than one year of negotiations, not one article has been settled. It is time for Airborne to get serious.”
Teamsters Local 1224 and Airborne managers have been in contract talks since June 2001 and in federal mediation since September. Despite having the union’s complete contract proposal, company negotiators have failed to respond to the union’s repeated requests to schedule additional sessions since early May.
