WASHINGTON, D.C. — Teamsters everywhere are hailing today’s decision by a Wisconsin judge who temporarily issued a restraining order that will keep Gov. Scott Walker’s bill severely curtailing collective bargaining from being published.

Dane County Court Judge Maryann Sumi issued the order until she can review the case.

The Dane County District Attorney had brought a complaint on behalf of several public officials who claimed that Republicans violated the state’s open-meeting law in pushing the legislation through.

“Sumi’s order will prevent Secretary of State Doug La Follette from publishing the law until she can rule on the merits of the case,” said Tom Bennett, President of Teamsters Local 200 in Milwaukee.

“The Republican lawmakers will still try and get this bill through one way or the other,” said Danny McGowan, political director for Local 662 in Eau Claire. “The working middle class in Wisconsin now need to get the eight Republican Senators and Gov. Walker recalled and elect individuals that will listen to the people instead of silencing them.”
