WASHINGTON, D.C. — The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is preparing to open negotiations with United Parcel Service (UPS) on the largest single employer collective bargaining agreement in the United States, the union announced in a press release.
Representatives from the union and the company will meet in Washington, D.C. to exchange opening proposals. Members of the media are invited to the proposal exchange. A brief question and answer session will be held before the rest of the meeting is closed.
The current Teamsters contract will end on July 31, 2002. More than 250,000 full and part-time workers are covered by the collective bargaining agreement. UPS has sustained profitable operations despite the current recession. The Teamsters are committed to achieving a contract that recognizes their contributions to these profits.
