CLEVELAND, July 27 — A tentative schedule is now available for the BLET’s 69th annual International Western Convention (IWC) in Green Bay, Wisc.
The convention runs from August 9-13 and concludes with a banquet at the National Railroad Museum the evening of August 12.
Pre-registration begins on Sunday, August 9, at 2 p.m.
Registration continues on Monday, August 10. The annual IWC golf outing, a luncheon cruise, and the welcome reception are also scheduled for August 10. Tee time is 8 a.m. at the Thornberry Creek Country Club, which offers 27 championship holes for golfers of all skill levels. Golf registration fees include breakfast before and lunch after play.
Opening ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, followed by closed meetings in the afternoon and dinner at Green Pay Packers stadium Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Three workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, August 12 — Secretary-Treasurer workshop, Local Chairman/Arbitration workshop, and Legislative Representative workshop.
The IWC banquet will take place the evening of August 12 at the National Railroad Museum in Green bay, which is one of the largest rail museums in the country and boasts a large collection of locomotives and rail cars spanning more than a century of railroading. Collection highlights include a Union Pacific Big Boy, the world’s largest steam locomotive, and the Dwight D. Eisenhower locomotive and a portion of the general’s World War II command train. The IWC will feature its banquet at the museum along with a “Who Done It?” mystery play.
Workshops continue on Thursday, August 13. Members can participate in a Question and Answer session with John Conklin of the Federal Railroad Administration; a radiation awareness workshop; an electronic evidence (event recorders and signal tapes) workshop; and a first responder awareness meeting.
