SAN ANTONIO — More flooding hit Texas early Saturday as storms brought heavy rain to the San Antonio area.
Much of the area received a foot of rain. The National Weather Service reported as much as 17 inches overnight in Uvalde and Medina counties, The San Antonio Express-News said.
Passengers on Amtrak’s westbound Sunset Limited from New Orleans to Los Angeles were stranded because of water on the tracks near Knippa, Texas, said Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham. Amtrak used buses to get the passengers to El Paso, where they were to continue on by train.
Scores of people were evacuated from low-lying areas in South Texas, the Express-News reported. Emergency officials also reported many rescues.
In one dramatic case, four teenagers climbed a tree after they were overwhelmed by flood waters while trying to retrieve a truck. A police helicopter spotted the four near Leon Creek in San Antonio, and a fire department boat came to their aid.
