CLEVELAND, March 17 — The Iowa State AFL-CIO became the 15th state labor federation to enact a remote control resolution.
Passed earlier this month, the resolution calls for the State of Iowa to prohibit the use of remote control locomotives until certain criteria are met, including:
1. A thorough risk assessment study of RCL operations has been made and published by a third party.
2. FRA regulations governing RCL operations are promulgated.
3. Railroads in Iowa give proper notice to all city, county, municipal, and State Emergency Planning Committees.
BLET Iowa State Legislative Board Chairman Charles Hintz thanked the Iowa Federation of Labor officers including: Mark Smith, President; Ken Sagar, Secretary-Treasurer; Jan Laue, Executive Vice President and the entire Executive Council for their efforts. The 14 other state federations are: Arizona; Texas; Michigan; Nevada; North Carolina; Missouri; North Dakota; Nebraska; Wisconsin; Georgia; Illinois; Pennsylvania; Kentucky; and Alabama.
