(Kansas City television station KMBC posted the following article on its website on June 21.)

ADRIAN, Mo. — Three engineers were hurt after a train accident in Bates County late Sunday night.

Authorities said that a train loaded with coal slammed into four grain cars that were parked on the tracks.

KMBC’s Dan Weinbaum said it is not yet known who owns the coal train, but the grain cars apparently belong to Missouri Northern Arkansas Railroad. There is no explanation as to why the cars were left there on the tracks.

Weinbaum said that the engineers suffered neck and back injuries.
