FORT WORTH, Texas — The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) today expanded its guaranteed intermodal service to include one additional lane to and from Chicago and two lanes into and out of Kansas City.

With these additional lanes, BNSF now offers guaranteed intermodal service in 15 lanes connecting major U.S. markets. The lanes are:

Chicago/Phoenix (NEW) — Kansas City/Richmond (NEW)
Chicago/Stockton — Kansas City/Stockton (NEW)
Chicago/Richmond — Kansas City/San Bernardino
Chicago/Seattle — St. Paul/Seattle
Chicago/Portland — St. Paul/ Portland
Chicago/San Bernardino — Memphis/San Bernardino
Chicago/Denver — Alliance (DFW)/San Bernardino
Chicago/Alliance (DFW)

BNSF began offering guaranteed intermodal service in May 2000. The guarantee allows shippers to purchase, for a premium, a service guarantee for three intermodal service levels for international, domestic and perishable intermodal shipments in these 15 lanes. For each load that does not meet the scheduled availability time for customer pick-up, BNSF will offer a 100-percent refund.

“BNSF’s guaranteed service program is attracting new customers who have traditionally shipped only over the road — and the record growth of our guaranteed product is proof of that,” said Steve Branscum, group vice president, BNSF Consumer Products Marketing. “Since the inception of this service we have moved more than 5,000 guaranteed loads — with the growth accelerating significantly. We will continue to listen to our customers and expand our guaranteed network as they request new markets and lanes.”

A subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation (NYSE: BNI – news), BNSF operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,000 route miles of track covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces. BNSF is an industry leader in Web-enabling a wide variety of customer transactions and moves more intermodal traffic than any other rail system in the world.
