HATBORO, Pa. — A tractor-trailer carrying a load of cement collided with a commuter train Thursday, injuring five people, authorities said.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. in the Philadelphia suburb of Hatboro, a Montgomery County dispatch supervisor said.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority train was carrying 38 passengers on the R2 Warminster line, officials said.
“It appears that the truck was trying to beat the train” when it went through a crossing into its path, SEPTA spokesman Jim Whitaker said. The gates and flashers at the crossing appeared to be working properly, he said.
Two passengers, two SEPTA crew members and the truck driver were being treated at Abington Memorial Hospital and none of their injuries appeared to be life-threatening, Whitaker said.
The R2 line resumed normal service shortly after the crash, he said.
The tractor-trailer was significantly damaged and the train had minor damage, Whitaker said.
