ORLANDO — A train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed in southern Flagler County, but officials said no chemical leaks were immediately detected.
Nine tanker cars of a Florida East Coast Railway freight train jumped the tracks around 11:40 p.m. Thursday in a rural area near Korona, about 15 miles north of Daytona Beach.
Sheriff’s deputies were evacuating residents along U.S. 1 south of the crash site, said Flagler County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Debra Johnson.
Of the nine cars, three contained sodium hydroxide and one contained chlorine, Johnson said.
But Johnson said emergency crews were still assessing the wreckage. No injuries were reported, Johnson said, and no cause had been determined.
